Document Management Maturity Model

Gamut's Document Management Maturity Model provides a reliable method of determining the current state of your document management capability, and indicates practical steps you can take to improve.

The Document Management Maturity Model (DMMM) identifies the seven levels through which an organisation typically ascends as it develops its formal document management capability.

Different strategies are required to rise from each level. It is therefore important to first understand your current maturity level so that you can take appropriate action. An organisation should not be aspiring to full document automation if does not yet have a secure document repository or has not yet achieved consistency in its classification of document types and metadata.

The combination of assessment tools and development tools enables the model to deliver practical solutions whatever your current maturity level. Generally, organisations starting at lower levels of maturity can achieve significant benefits for relatively small investments in time and expenditure. As your document management processes mature toward enterprise integration and process automation, the cost and impact increase. However at these upper levels improvements can be truly transformational.

A major advantage of adopting an incremental approach is that you have an opportunity to exit the improvement process whenever you feel your maturity level is aligned with your broader business strategy. It is not necessary to implement full document automation to benefit from the model.
